Help!

Dress: Aeropostale, $25
Jean jacket: Forever 21, $30
Shoe: $10, Fergalicious via Famous Footwear
Purse: H&M, $28
Bracelet: Don't remember!
Belt: Also don't remember!
Necklace: Forever 21, $2

I would say it's high time I call on you guys for your advice again. You do always seem to steer me right.

What do you think of this dress? I found it while perusing a store I literally never walk into (Aeropostale? I practically had to fight a swarm of elementary school girls to find this dress). I wasn't sold on it right away, but Matt kept gushing about it, so I bought it because I like looking good for my husband, duh. But it's been sitting in my closet for a month now, and I still haven't worn it. I mean, yeah, it's super summery and it's been atrociously cold and & bitter in Michigan for the last month, but I just didn't even find myself missing this dress. I don't dislike it at all. I just wonder if I'd rather spend the $25 on a dress I feel I'd reach for more. But I did want to get a few more maxi dresses for this spring/summer. And $25 is such a cheap price to pay for a dress in a color and print and hemline that I love. But I don't love this dress by itself, and to have to wear some sort of jacket or sweater with it every time I wear it feels limiting.

So I think I'm leaning toward returning it. Unless you sway me otherwise. Is it cute? Not worth the hassle of returning it for just $25? Hideous & awful and God when can we burn it? Let me know!

  2. I actually think it is really cute, but if you don't think you would wear it or like it as much as something else, I'd say return it and get one of the other dresses you think you would get more use out of!

  3. Yeah, I like it a lot, but if you're not sold on it now I feel like maybe it's not happening. At least that's how I am.

  4. You are probably the first person who has convinced me that a hi-lo dress can look pretty! I really like it, but agree that if you aren't in love with it, it's okay to move on. I think it looks fresh and sweet and springy despite Michigan's refusal to accept the fact that it is in fact spring :-)

  6. I love this dress! I love getting items from stores I normally don't shop at, and that are not to popular! Then most people wont have the same dress you have. I think keep it.

  7. I love the color, I love the stripes, it looks adorable with the denim jacket and wedges. I think it will definitely come in handy on warmer spring/summer days. BUT if you don't love it, return it...you can always spend that money on something you really love.

  8. It's a great look! My favorite part is the colors. Girl you styled this dress perfectly! I've never been a fab of hi-low but your styling makes it look great! I have a few summer dresses that just seem off without a jacket but I still love them :)

  9. I think it looks lovely on you! The colour suits you! You might like it more once its feels a bit more like summer? But like pretty much everyone else I think if you aren't sure that you'll wear it, take it back.

  10. I love the color on you and think the dress is pretty. Once this Midwest weather unfreezes itself, you may find yourself grabbing it more. You have so many options with it. I say keep it unless you find a similar dress for even cheaper. (I love a really good bargain!) Have a blessed day! :)

  11. I personally don't like the high-low dresses but you look freakin adorable in it! The color and styling is great! It's all about how you feel in it though- if you think you will get a lot of wear out of it, make a spot in your closet for it but if not- back to the store it goes!

  12. I think the dress looks great with the denim jacket, but I think it's too limiting to feel like you HAVE to wear layers over it. Now I'm completely intrigued as to what it looks like on its own!

  13. I do think it's cute, but if you don't love it, I would suggest returning it. I have pieces like that in my closet and they will sit there unused until I finally give it away to a girlfriend...waste of money! But, for what it's worth, I do like the color on you & the stripes. Seems like it would be a great vacation/beach dress with a panama hat :)

  14. so i love it. and you could do the following:

    1) wear it with that denim jacket you have on, it's killer!
    2) throw on a white blazer [because white blazers are the answer to everything]
    3) throw on a chambray shirt and tie it in a knot around your waist - tada, instant skirt! [this can be done with a white button down, or black button down... or blue button down... etc!]
    4) wear a thicker white crop tee and a statement necklace over it [again, instant skirt]

with that said, if you don't feel like you'll wear it a lot, then take it back.

[fyi this coming from a girl with 2 solid boxes of dresses, so i clearly don't return anything]

  15. I actually really like it, but if you don't love it, take it back. I think you styled it perfectly, as for other ways, mauve a blue cardigan, maybe a white jean jacket?

  16. I love it and I think yellow is great color on you! But I'm with you on buying something and keeping it in my closet for awhile. That's the worst... maybe return it and find something else you do love and that your husband loves :) If you decide to keep it, I love it with the jean jacket, I think it would look great with a white blazer, well because what doesn't? Or a navy blazer! Or tie up a white blouse over it in the summer!

  17. I like the dress personally. But i have been on a maxi dress hunt. $25 is a great price. But if it is the color, then return it and buy one that you like the color more of! The style and shape is pretty. I found one similar to yours at F21 for $15, they had a huge selection of colors.

  18. I think you look super cute in the dress! Yellow is such, a fun color! I'm personally not a fan of high-low dresses, but I love the way they look on other people. It looks really great with those wedges.

If you don't think you'll wear it often, I say take it back. $25 can definitely get you another dress. But, you look great so I can totally see why you'd keep it!

  19. I think the yellow is a super pretty shade, and I love the stripes... BUT. It's too long (I think the most flattering high-low hems start at or above the knees), and the waistline is too high for you, it almost looks like a maternity dress. Plus there's that weird boob scrunching. If you don't love it now, you're not going to love it more in the future, and at least for me, I don't want to buy things that I don't absolutely love. If you can return it, I vote that you do. Plus, $25 ain't cheap. You can buy WAY cuter dresses at Forever 21 for the same price or less. There's a reason Aeropostale is marketed towards tweens/teens.

  20. I love it! I swooned when I saw your first picture and can't believe it's from Aero. I would keep it, if you aren't sold on it, don't waste your money. Please tell me that you haven't worn it for anything. It these photos if you are going to return. It's awful when people hide the tags and wear the clothes around for awhile

  21. I think it's cute! But if you can't see yourself wearing it a few more times- return!

  22. "I love the color, print, and hemline, but I don't love the dress itself." Spoken like a woman. Ha. But seriously. I get feeling the need to wear something over it, and the style and color of the dress are going to allow you wear lots of different colors over it. But I just think for $25, you could do something you love 100%. I understand feeling partial to it b/c the hubby likes it, but maybe you could ask him to pick out something else he likes? If not, you could keep it and know that he likes it and that might convince you to love it?

Or, return it, and spend the money on this instead.

    Seriously.

  23. you are so cute and sweet! i think it looks really good with your hair color. if you feel like you will never wear it again then the logical thing would be to return but i think it would be a great staple for spring/summer! cute over a bathing suit and at night you can throw a cute blazer or jacket over it!
