Flats.

Until I was about 19, I didn't have a single pair of high heels. Well, I take that back. I had one pair. An old black pair that were reserved for times when flats were just not dressy enough or boots weren't appropriate. And then sometime in college, I started singing onstage with the music department at my church, and all the girls on the team always wore heels. So I started wearing heels. And when I'd see myself on the big screen during service, I'd think, WHO IS THAT TALL SKINNY GLASS OF WATER ON THE SCREEN?! And I was not particularly skinny at that point in my life (or really at any point in my life!). I had just discovered the wonder of heels. And I have not stopped "discovering" them since.

So why, you might ask, am I wearing flats? To challenge myself, I suppose. And to maybe learn to be okay with flats again so that I don't try to run around in 5-inch heels once I have kids (who are we kidding, I'll probably give birth in 5-inch heels). So, surprise! My legs are not super long like you may have thought (I assume you all have thought so much about my legs, no...?). I am not a slender 5'11. I am an average 5'6" (on a good day). And I have really muscular calves. And not by choice.

Hope you had a pair of sunglasses handy at the sight of my legs. I'm pretty sure that if your legs match the white background of your blog, it's been too long since they've have seen a little sun, period.

  1. I had no idea you waited until 19 to wear high heels so much. I love your flats and your outfit! Your skirts are always so cute!
My legs are probably the same color! I'm pale, pale, pale!

  4. Cute, Lynette! I'm a massive flats girl (I have two pairs of wedges...and everything else is flat!), so naturally, I love your shoes! You rock those heels, though, and make them look wearable (many other people look like they're falling over in heels). Your polka dot shirt is darling, too!

  5. sometimes you just gotta go with the flats! I have a serious love for my wedges and heels but then there are days that flats are a must, plus they are making them so fashionable and fun! I love them paired with jeans but you've totally pulled off the look with your skirt and blouse. I'm all about that polka dot top, each time I see it I love it even more! Fab find pretty lady!!

I totally agree I am in wedges or heels every day and my husband make fun of me because I never wear flats. When you find a great pair let me know, I just always feel better in heels.

  7. Lovely outfit! I think the flats are perfect. It's so easy to want to always wear heels so I'm magically over 5'5" (I'm a small 5'2") but they just aren't practical being a special education teacher. Good for you for giving up the heels for a day, you look great!

  8. I love this skirt - the color & layers to it are so pretty...perfect with the polka dot top! So impressed that you can go bare-legged there - still feels like winter in NY! Oh, and I sing at my church too - yay :)

  9. You are hilarious. I wish I could pull off heels every day- I'm too much of a wimp though! (And no worries on the bare legs- I'm with ya as I come out of winter hibernation- my toes need a pedicure and my legs need some self tanner STAT!)

  11. This is such a cute outfit, absolutely love the polka dot top with your pink pencil skirt. I am on the hunt for more colorful pencil skirts to brighten up my wardrobe!

Also, I rarely wear flats and if I do, they are flat boots. I do love flats though! I'm just like you and mostly wear heels (I think I have 30+ pairs)... discovered them in college and never went back. My bf just bought me a beautiful pair for Christmas (waiting for the snow to melt to wear them). He probably did this because he is shorter than me already, so when I wear heels he is much shorter than me. Oh well, I love them too much!

  14. You are so funny!!! I love you in heels or flats, they both look great on your feet and your legs still look long! Love the color combo and the added polka dots is a great print. That shirt is getting good use, glad we get to see it again with a bright skirt. By the way you underestimate your skin color, there are plenty of people who have whiter legs than you darling, so they are not that bad!! :)

  16. Holy cow. It must be the lighting or something. Are you really telling me that this is what heels do for you? I'm not saying your legs/calves look bad by any means, they just remind me of mine!! And I'm the girl that usually wears flats! (I'm really not trying to sound rude, so I apologize if this comes off as offensive!) Are you saying that if I wear heels I can get those thin little things you feature every other day?! Um sign me up. And then teach me how to walk in them. I feel like I have to walk at least twice as slow, especially on stairs, when I'm in heels. Do you feel the same way? And do you really typically wear 5" heels? I feel so tall in 3" heels (and I'm the same height as you). On an outfit related note, I love the navy and pink together! So pretty!

And, I love your hair in these pics, but that's nothing new.
