Little Black Dress.

Blazer: H&M, $30
Dress: Cynthia Rowley via TJ Maxx, $30
Necklace: Forever 21, $2
Belt: Love Culture, $6
Shoes: Fergalicious via Famous Footwear, $10
Glasses: c/o Firmoo

Meet my first real "little black dress". This is the dress photographed at the end of this post in case you were wondering so, yes, it's the dress I got at TJ Maxx recently. I've had other black dresses before, but generally just ones that are primarily "just casual" or "just dressy". While this one looks best all on it's own in my opinion, I think I really will be able to dress it up or down!

This was my first quick attempt to make this outfit appropriate for the office. Looking back, I think I would've swapped out the wedge for a regular nude pump, just to make it look a touch classier. I just can hardly stand to leave the house in anything other than this super comfy wedge.

Also, I visited CynthiaRowley.com to see if there were other dresses similar to mine (and was ready to buy a few, because I can't say no to a well-fitting dress!) and was shocked to see the average price for a dress around $400. The tag on my dress said the original price of the dress was $50. I know the tags at TJ Maxx often aren't right and sometimes have original tags attached reflecting a much higher price than TJ Maxx said the item originally sold for but jeez, am I missing something? Does CR have a ready-to-wear line that's much more affordable or is she pumping out copies of her designer line in a lower-quality material? This dress I'm wearing feels so expensive and crisp and of a quality material, I would easily believe it was originally several hundred dollars, but I guess I'm just a little confused. Anyone have insight into this?

Either way, my husband is taking me out on a pretty little date tomorrow night, and I plan on figuring out a way to make this new dress date appropriate. Should I succeed (and not spill frozen yogurt down the front of it, because there's no such thing as date night without frozen yogurt), I may be sharing that look on the blog soon!

  1. i love that you are wearing your glasses, Lynette! they look so great on you, and make you look super nerdy chic ;) as for the Tj Maxx tag thing, I really have no clue, so I'm sorry I can't help ya out. Either way, that dress is so great and the fact that you got it for $30 is amazing!

  3. God TJMaxx is my favorite ever. That's weird about the tag thing, but hey, a deal is a deal. TEACH ME YOUR BLACK DRESS STYLING WAYS!! I'm so miserable at things that are supposed to be easy.

  4. yay little black dresses! i'm so glad you introduced me to the greatness that is TJ Maxx. and also Cynthia Rowley! i went back and bought that peplum skirt and it's a CR too! i tried to look for dresses like the one you got, but they don't have them at my store.

i love that belt. i know you don't love sleeveless, but when the weather permits, i'd love to see the dress and belt sans blazer!

  5. For me there is no such thing as a date night without me spilling something on the front of my dress. What that "something" ends up being is always flexible. haha.

    You are adorable! :]

  6. I have no clue on the Cynthia Rowley dress issue, but I own two of her dresses (both from TJ Maxx) and agree that they fit (& are made) amazingly well! I guess I'll just keep buying them there. :)

Can't wait to see how you style the dress for date night!

  9. You look so pretty! I love the teal belt over your white blazer and dress! I can't wait to see how you style it for date night :) And I have no insight on TJMaxx and their tags. I just always hope that it is a much lower price than I would have originally paid for it ;)

  11. Can't help you with the CR/TJ Maxx question- I'm as ignorant as they come. I thought TJ Maxx bought stuff from high end stores that they couldn't get rid of, only to sell it for profit. (Turns out that's not quite the way it works.) Anyway, I probably would've preferred this outfit with heels, but then you might just be too stunning for the workplace. Do you ever worry about that? All the time? I figured as much. When you're done with that blazer, I'll take it. Thanks :)

  12. I love how you styled it, that belt is so pretty too! Have so much fun on your date! Love this LBD. Weird that the price for CR is so much higher than stated, that is kind of a downer. I would wanted to know the real price!

  15. I posted a little black dress yesterday too... Beautiful blondes think alike again? always :)
I love the neckline of this dress. I looked for it at TJ last week after your post cause you were bragging on the fit, but no luck finding it :/

  16. I have no idea about the Cynthia Rowley brand because I've only seen it sold at like TJMaxx/Marshalls type of places and never full price (well, not like I'd shop at those places anyway) so I have no insight.

Love your teal belt, and you look amazing!

  17. Ah! I just went to TJ Maxx yesterday in search of shorts for my job this summer (GROSS - SHORTS) but found myself in the dresses section (go figure). I found this gorgeous taupe Cynthia Rowley dress there for $30 (original price on the tag said $50) and bought it. When I came home, I started getting caught up on blogs, and realized THE DRESS I BOUGHT IS THIS ONE YOU HAVE!!!! Omg. It really is an incredibly comfortable and beautiful dress! I am really excited to see how you'll style the dress too :) We have a few weddings to go to this summer, and I'm really excited to wear this dress at one (or all) of them :)

  19. I wondered the same thing about the Cynthia Rowley dress! I did the exact same thing...purchased it at tj maxx and looked it up online. Never got to the bottom of wether it was a ready to wear line or not but I love the fabric and everything about it so whatever it is I will take it! Here is my secret to owning it in almost every color they make...poshmark! I've gotten it for anywhere from $15 to $25 new ones are posted all the time! I don't think I'll stop until I have every medium ever made! haha The funniest part is I wore them in different colors (styled totally differently) on dates and my new beau who is far more observant than a normal man apparently said "that's a really nice dress...is it the same style as the one you wore the other day?" Lol ❤️ He just might be a keeper!
