Dreamer

Tweed blazer: H&M, $30
Ombré shirt: Rue 21, $22
Jeans: Rue 21, $9
Scarf: Gift from a friend
Shoes: Shoedazzle, $10.52
Purse: Target, $9 (bragged about here!)
Bracelets: Pink studded one, Charlotte Russe, $6, Pearl bracelets, Forever 21, $1.80

Attempt number one at figuring out how to wear those Shoedazzle shoes

I honestly almost felt kind of lame posting this look. To me, it's kind of boring, and half the things I'm wearing are from Rue 21, a store I generally can't stand.

One of the main reasons I didn't try my hand at blogging for so long is because some of my favorite bloggers out there are seen prancing across their blog screen wearing J. Crew, Zara, and Madewell on a regular basis. Which is great, and obviously they look beautiful, because those stores carry beautiful clothing. They also happen to be very expensive. And guess who can't generally afford those types of brands right now? Me. So when I see something higher end that I like on a blog, I have to sneak into stores like Rue 21 and Forever 21 to see if they sell a similar item that isn't covered in skulls or made of one-time-use fabric. It's intimidating! Part of me felt like a blog could never be successful unless the author herself owned and wore primarily name brand clothing. Anybody else get that feeling, or felt intimidated when starting a blog?

One thing is for sure, though: I am a dreamer. I don't like to think I am limited by resources or money or ability, only myself. If you want to do something, the only thing that can really stop you is yourself. So if you want to do something, like start a blog, just do it! Even if your shirt is from Rue 21. And your jeans. And you still don't own anything from J. Crew. DO IT!

And besides, my husband kind of bullied me into starting a blog because I wouldn't stop talking about it for literally months. So there's always that. :)

  1. AMEN! I second every last sentence of this, with the added bonus that my Boyfriend is NOT a photographer and the idea of taking pictures outside is more stressful than fun for me. I'm jealous of all you little pretties prancing around outside, but I'm just noottttt there yet :) I kind of decided up front that I wasn't going to make this feel like a chore, and I wasn't going to pretend to be something I'm not - that means cheap clothes and nerdy jokes, baby! Really really glad we both got over it :)

    2. Aw, thank you Sam! And my husband takes my photos too, and he's NOT a photographer at ALL, haha... but I actually was, a few years back. So when we go out to take pictures, I the snottiest wife ever. "DON'T TAKE IT HORIZTONAL, TAKE IT VERTICAL... WHAT ARE YOU DOING... DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THAT LOOKS GOOD?!?!". Yeah, I'm a treat. It's super stressful knowing what I want but not being able to just take it myself.
And luckily for us, our apartment is essentially on a lake, and we have a private entrance to it, and no one is crazy enough to be on that beach in the dead of winter other than us. So I get to have my crazy camera meltdowns in private. :)

When my husband was trying to get me to just start a blog, he kept reminding me that the end result doesn't have to be wealth, fame & fortune. Haha, seriously. I *can* just do this for fun, not because I think I have to compete or become the greatest. So for now, I'm here to have fun, with some hope, and to meet hilarious and heart warming people like you. I actually have had your blog bookmarked for like, two months now, and would go to it every couple of days before I even really started blogging regularly (and by that I mean, in the last two weeks).

But yeah. End of rant. Thanks for the comment. <3 :)

      Good for you

  2. Look at you staying this outfit with your new shoes AND your new bag! I declare this outfit a success! Also, I know what you mean about designer labels. I don't have that kind of money, and I think it's better to work it with what you have and great deals you can find (ie your purse and shoes) then to blow your budge on one trendy sweater that won't be cool next year. That is all. :)

  3. I happen to think you look adorable! I love the fun pop of color on your feet...it makes the look! I love your attitude...there's a place in the blog world for looks of all price ranges I think! I love to mix inexpensive things with higher end so seeing your fun finds is a great help! Who doesn't love a great deal?!!

    1. Right?! I've hated that store for years, but I've been peeking in a little bit lately because they seem to be catching on to some decent, not-just-for-12-year-old trends! Though you still have to wade through a sea of Justin Beiber shirts and Twilight apparel, haha.

  9. I think you look so cute!! I always shop at F21... I think they have super cute things for a fraction of what other things cost. And F21 things are surprisingly well-made.

    1. Aw, thanks Amy. :) And Forever 21 quality can be hit or miss, but if you pay attention to what the shirts are made of, you can find some really great deals. I've seen silk shirts at Forever 21 for under $30, such a steal!

  10. I definitely feel that way too, but you are proving that you can look super stylish without breaking the bank. I love your outfit here and that bag is stunning, such a great find!

  12. It's so good that your husband is supportive of you and your blog!!

I totally agree about getting a little woozy over not having everything from JCrew. I wonder how these people do it??!

I think your outfit is absolutely adorable. Cute clothes can be found anywhere, right?! It's all in how you piece them together..and you've done a fantastic job!

& yes, the Mister thinks I'm the greatest fashion blogger in the whole world.. :) Although he hasn't ever seen any others... I like to think his opinion is legitimate. ;)

  13. YES. I also didn't really start blogging because I feel my size isn't like...blog body to show off pretty clothes. I for one really like this outfit (and immediately started looking for a similar blouse to the one you are wearing here because it is so pretty). I think it's all about how you wear things, and what you wear them with. Expensive clothes can look cheap on certain people, and inexpensive clothes can look rich on the right people.

    1. Aw I'm glad you like the top! And I agree about expensive/cheap clothes looking a certain way based on how you wear them. I'm definitely trying to master the art! :)

And you're not alone on the "blog body" thing. I know I'm not a big girl (and neither are you! jeez, little lady), but everyone has their insecurities. Sometimes my husband takes my photos and I look at them after and want to burst into tears over my "thunder thighs" or "football shoulders". But honestly, most girls look like us, not like super skinny girls with no body fat. You know? So I'd like to think we're relatable! :)

      Thanks for the comment. :)

  18. You're too adorable, I love this outfit! You made the bright shoes work perfectly for fall. And I can totally relate on the lack of designer duds. But I think a creative sense of style is what really works. Which you totally have!

Oh, and I've found outlet malls are a blogger's best friend:) Hello $10 sweaters at J.Crew Factory!

    1. I loooove outlets, but the closest one is about an hour away. Which I guess is really not that far. It's just that I live 4 minutes away from a normal, pricey mall. Hahaha.

  19. Just found your blog... you're adorable, and I love your style.

Rue 21 or Goodwill... fashion is more about style than brand names. And buying inexpensive (or reasonably priced) clothes is more way more relatable to all us real world girls.

    Keep dreaming and stay lovely!

  21. I feel ya about the designer duds on blogs. There's no shame in finding copycat items in Forever 21 and other less expensive stores! I do it myself all the time. Plus, half the fun is making something that didn't cost a lot look like it did :)

  23. Oh my goodness, I feel that same way about blogging about my not-so-high-end name brand clothes, lol! But you have to realize that MOST women don't even have a budget like that and you can make almost anything work and look good if you put it with the right clothes or accessories no matter the cost! I think you look amazing!! I love love love your bag & your yellow heels are!
