Rush Hour

Blazer: H&M, $50
Dress: Forever 21, $28
Belt: Forever 21, $3.80
Heels: Payless, $25
Purse: Target, $9
Bracelets: Beaded - Forever 21, $3.80, Studded - Charlotte Russe, $6
Earrings: Rue 21, $4

I just picked this dress up at Forever 21 a few days ago (it's no longer online, though!). I was shocked to find a dress from there that was borderline work-appropriate in length. I say borderline because I kind of have to tug on it all day to keep it at the length you see photographed, but I'll settle for borderline work-appropriate if it only costs $28.

I had big plans for this cute little dress. Scarves, necklaces, accent colors.... but none of them happened, because the night before I wore this dress, this happened:
That little owl is a heating pad. Matt wanted to make sure you all knew he doesn't need stuffed animals to feel better. That would just be silly... :)
Matt came down with some cold symptoms and I was up for several hours in the night taking care of him. So when the alarm went off the next morning, I repeatedly hit snooze way past my ability to shower or get creative with my outfit, and just ran out the door with what was lying on the floor of my closet. I just consider myself lucky that my slippers and husband's football jersey weren't closer than this blazer and these heels. It could've been ugly. I didn't even grab those bracelets. I found them in the bottom of my purse when I got to work. Bam! Accessorized.

Anyway, I have high hopes for this dress! It's lightweight and only elbow length, so I'm sure I'll get plenty of wear out of it this summer!

Also, one of my coworkers at work found my blog. And by found it I mean found me looking at it at work and bullied me into letting him see it. Hopefully the secret doesn't get too far though. The last I want anyone to know is that the overdressed receptionist loves herself so much, she posts her outfits on the Internet...

  1. Cute dress, I've done the yanking down in hopes of wearing it to work too!
I hope your hubby gets better soon!
Most people I work with know I have a blog too. I have a Facebook page, so it got out pretty easily....

    1. Hahaha thanks! That eShakti dress looks like it'll be all sorts of work appropriate though. Loved it!

I guess I'm just nervous about a bunch of real estate agents finding out that I have a style blog. I have no idea what on earth they would think. haha.

  5. Love the dress, but I love the cute little bow belt peeking out even more! And thank goodness for big bags - you never know what fashion essential you might find in them! Extra arm party material, lipstick, tights you bought last week and still haven't opened - oh, is that just me? Oops.

    1. Hahaha I'm with you! I had a bag of CVS goodies I'd purchased the day before in my bag that day, so I had a lovely bright pink tube of lipstick to help brighten up my stayed-up-all-night face. :)

  6. I love the dress and heels too! Only a true fashionista has bracelets in her purse :) the people I work with know about my blog because of Facebook. The very people I thought would laugh at me and have no interest are the ones asking me when I will be posting next!

  10. HAHA you are too cute! I know they all think we are self absorbed! BUT that is not the case! You look amazing, great find for that dress. The color is a really nice pink and your hair looks fabulous! I still think you can wear white even though you say you can't try a blazer or blouse first :) hehe

  11. I love this outfit! Your dress and belt are seriously gorgeous. And you totally win for the best outfit off the floor. My grab and go outfits usually end up looking weird and ridiculous.

    1. Haha, my grab and go outfits don't generally make it to the blog! This one almost didn't because I just felt I could do better with it, but when I got to work, everyone kept making comments about my outfit (nice comments, not your-dress-is-too-short comments, just to clarify ;), so I decided to put it up! :)

  13. Love the shade of pink and that fun bow belt - sometimes you can find some treasures at F21!

  14. Hey, it's all good. Surprisingly, my co-workers are actually some of my biggest fans. They stop me in the hallways to tell me that they loved my post, or thanks for the beauty tip, or they spend part of their Saturdays catching up on my blog. It might not be so bad if others find out about it :)

PLUS, you can rock a Forever21 dress like it's BCBG. I'm so impressed!

  15. That IS a good steal! I've tried on too many dresses at F21 to even bother trying anymore. Who are these people they are catering towards because they barely cover the goods on me. NOT OKAY.

    also those earrings: amazing.

    1. I'm right there with you, girl. I've decided they cater to the 5'2" girl who loves to show skin. Not cool! I have only found two dresses in the last three years at Forever 21 that actually went to a reasonable length. Just sucks that all the places that sell longer dresses are places like Banana Republic and J. Crew, i.e.: places I can't usually afford. :(

  16. i can't even believe that belt didn't come attached to the dress. they are perfect together, much like your man is perfect with the cute little owl friend (heating pad).

    1. Hahahaha thank you! I found the belt the same day I bought the dress, so it was like a match made in heaven.

And yes, much like Matt and his little owl friend. <3

    1. Very true! I have some dresses that literally fall right above the knee, and I don't tend to wear them outside of work because they're usually just TOO formal looking. This is the perfect length. :) Thanks!
