You're Awesome.

Top: Target, from a friend
Purse: Love Culture, $20
Pants: Forever 21, $23
Shoes: Old Navy, $17
Bracelets: Forever 21

You know what's awesome? Posting on my blog after four days and being met with an ambush of comments saying that all you ladybugs do remember me, do like me, and were even concerned that I'd fallen into a hole and died (okay, so that was just Fran, but I feel the love).

I love having a blog. I love having a creative outlet and having this little part of the Internet that can be mine, but the reason I came out of my blog-lurking ways and created my own blog was to get this kind of community, one where I can find ladies with similar interests and make friends. I don't think I've ever seen such a fun, sweet and interesting bunch of ladies in my life like that ones I've come across in the blogging world. Where were you all when I was in high school?! We could've been friends, and wore chains on our pants and dyed our hair black together (oh, you didn't go through a gothic stage? Dang..).

Okay, so mushy stuff aside... I need your help again. I know, I just don't know when to stop, do I? I can't get dressed anymore without you guys.

So the question today is, what the heck do I do with this top?

It's like George Washington and a floral curtain had a baby and I'm wearing it. I inherited this shirt after my old roommate bought it for herself and it was too big. I have struggled to wear it since. The only way I've been able to wear it and not feel like one giant ruffle hotdog is to tuck the bottom half of the shirt into a black pencil skirt. But I was trying to stay away from that obvious combo by... pairing it with black cropped pants instead. Genius, aren't I? At least I belted it this time.

And when all else fails, magenta purse. Always saves the day. No?

HELP!

  1. I think you styled it well, I like the belt with it too. I think it'll be cute with white pants, shorts, whatever when it gets warmer. Ruffles are hard for me to wear, but I think it's very flattering on you.

    1. Really?! Flattering on me? Yikes. Every time I come back to this post, I feel like I just want to toss this shirt to the giveaway pile. But thank you! )

  3. I love how you have worn it with these pants and belt, I was going to suggest tucking it into a skirt and then saw your comment about that lol. I think it would look great work over skinny or boot cut jeans with the belt (I think it needs the belt if not being tucked in) and worn with flats or even some converse style trainers (I believe you call them sneakers in the US? ha I am such a geek) to mix it up a bit. Also I would love to see it worn over a tube skirt (mid thigh length) with a chunky cardigan over it, coloured chunky knit tights and knee boots, but that is just how I like to wear everything haha, I do think it would look good though. Still loving the bag! :)

    1. I agree, it definitely needs a belt if it's not tucked in. I REALLY like the shorter skirt & cardigan idea though! You got me thinkin'! :)

  4. i love the cropped pants with it [and the belt is genius] but you can totally dress it down a little for a fun casual date night with...

two words: boyfriend jeans. and a white blazer. and heels. [wait, how many words am i up to??]

and the magenta purse, of course.

    1. You see, I had on my white blazer when I was about to take these pictures. But something about adding a blazer actually makes these ruffles seem like 10x more pronounced and ridiculous.

I'm liking the boyfriend jeans idea though, definitely! I got too small for my last pair but am looking for a pair this spring!

And I swear, if I'd had this magenta purse when I got married this September, I'd have walked down the dang aisle with it. <3

  5. You could pick up any color in the shirt in your bottoms, so, grey, pink, teal. You could also go for analogous colors (colors which are next to each other on the color wheel), in this case, purple and orange are next to pink/red on the wheel. You could also go for complimentary colors which are across from each other on the wheel, in this case shades of green. I think you could come up with a bunch of combos for this shirt!

  7. "It's like George Washington and a floral curtain had a baby and I'm wearing it." HA! I <3 that comment. As soon as you asked what to wear this with - I was thinking "DUH black pencil skirt" and then I kept reading...the obvious choice. Doh! Obviously I am no help here, but I do agree with Natalie that this would look FAB with your white blazer. xo

    1. I might have to wear it with my white blazer to show you all how much more ridiculous it looked with my white blazer. That, or you all could prove me wrong and tell me I'm an idiot and that it looks great with a blazer. HMMMM....

  10. I love the shirt actually, the belt separates the look a bit, which is great! I like the way you styled it, even with a pair of skinny blue denim and white blazer over ,this would make the shirt pop and I like that only a peak of the ruffles would be showing too! Love this blog Lynette!

  11. I love the shirt! I think the belt is great. I always have trouble with that style of shirt too, but I think you did an awesome job putting it together :)

  12. You see, I'm drawn to ruffles because they distract onlookers from my chest that is rivaled by a twelve-year-old boy's. Too much information? Okay.

If you want to dress it down a little, you could go with a military jacket, some rolled cuff jeans, and a fun pair of flats (or those awesome heels from yesterday's post.) You could keep it belted. I have no idea if that suggestion is even helpful, but I felt like I needed to compensate for my previous awkward comment.

    1. It's okay, I have next to no chest either, ha! So that's one thing I do like about this top. I LOVE the idea of the military jacket though! Genius! I don't own one, but I'm MUCH more enticed to buy one now! Thanks, Danielle!

  13. I DID GO THROUGH A GOTHIC STAGE!! Freshman year of high school! I wore black lipstick and I cut up my clothes and I wore two different earrings and a dog collar and men's ties! And I listened to Jay-Z. It was a confusing time.

BUT GIRL I SO FEEL YOU. And at least now we like pretty ruffly things. :)
