New Revlon Photoready BB Cream Review!

I'm back with another review, for another foundation (BB cream?), also by Revlon! What can I say: I love a good drugstore foundation, and Revlon is one of the only ones who have yet to disappoint in that area.

I've tried a couple BB creams before, but they were always high-end, so like $30+. I just don't like having to spend that much money on something I'm not going to use everyday. Because when it comes to foundation, I tend to wear something medium coverage and long lasting like Revlon's Colorstay Foundation. BB Creams aren't usually more than light coverage, and generally not too long-lasting. But for a retail price of about $10.99, I figured this BB cream was a risk I could take.

That being said, I bought this product with some doubts but with an understanding of what this BB Cream was supposed to do, which, according to the Revlon website, is this:

-Hydrates like a moisturizer
-Smooths like a primer
-Covers like a foundation
-Blurs flaws like concealer
-Protects with SPF 30 like sunscreen

So how did this BB cream deliver? Click "Read More" below to find out!

For starters, say hello again to my bare skin:

Hi.

Both images are bigger if you click on them! As you can see, I don't have a problem with acne, but I do have redness and big pores and weird discoloration.

This BB Cream comes in three shades: Light, Light/Medium and Medium. I chose light/medium. I really knew better than to choose that shade. I'm clearly light. But I'm in denial of my white skin, and this is supposed to be shade adjusting... so.... yeah. It was just a touch darker than my actual skin:

A really giant touch.

Me unable to conceal the fact that I knew I'd made a giant mistake on the shade selection. Whoops.

Application: It felt a little like a primer in the sense that it was thicker than a normal foundation, in my opinion. And despite being the wrong shade, it really did seem adjust and photograph just fine. If anything, if gave some warmth to my otherwise ghostly complexion.

Wear time: For me, it lasted relatively well six hours later. Some redness started to peek through, but it's not bad considering that this bb cream doesn't advertise that it's long lasting. Some days I noticed a little oxidation, where the foundation looked a little orange by six or so hours of wear, but I've found that if you make sure to rub the bb cream into your face well, and have a good face powder, that seems to help.

Does is hydrate? YES! Very much so. My skin is usually oily/combination but in the winter, it tends to be really dry for the first part of the day, but almost right away, this bb cream gives me really dewy skin that doesn't get too oily later. I don't see me wanting to wear this a lot in the summer because my skin is quite oily in the summer, but for right, this product is so great.

LOOK AT THAT DEWY SKIN!

Does it "cover like a foundation"? Not quite. It's about as much coverage as a tinted moisturizer, and even when I'm just going for sheer coverage, I still wear concealer with this bb cream.

Blur flaws? I guess. As you can see below, it decently evens out my redness. But I don't think this would do much for acne scars or serious hyper pigmentation.

And, as you can see, if I'm not careful, it settles in the pores on my nose in a yucky way. Also could mean it's time for a Biore strip though... :)

Protects like a sunscreen? With an SPF of 30, I sure hope so! That's quite a good SPF!

My verdict: If you've got dry skin and don't need a ton of coverage, this BB cream really might be for you. But if you've got oily skin at all, I'd stay away from this! It really is hydrating. And if you've got problem skin that needs a fuller coverage foundation, you won't be happy with the coverage of this.   I will say, though, that after a few days of wearing this, my bare skin looked more beautiful than ever. It just looked so much more even and healthy, and it wasn't dried out to the max like it normally is in the winter. So this is my perfect daily go-to face product when I don't have somewhere where I really want to look flawless.

Revlon Photoready BB Cream can be found at most local drugstores and grocery stores for about $10.99!

  3. I use the Garnier one for light coverage. I love most of Revlon's products (especially their lipsticks!) so it's good to read an honest review in case I want to pick this up when my Garnier one runs out!

    1. I've seen the Garnier one around as well but haven't tried any Garnier products, so I've been too scared to try their bb cream out.

    1. Unfortunately, I think one of the most notorious properties of a BB cream is that it is hydrating, which stinks for those of us with oily skin!

  5. Great review! I think I'll likely keep away from this product seeing as my skin tends to get really oily.

    1. Yes, I do want to come in and spend all your money. On myself. That's what you meant, right? :)

I heard the Maybelline BB cream is really velvety smooth and stuff though. Let me know!

  7. HAHAHA I love the pic where you're a little unsure about the shade... so funny!

So I actually thought about buying this today (before reading your review) but ended up going with the Photoready Airbrush... I wasn't quite sure what the BB cream is, so I'm glad I read this!

  8. The other night while watching "What Not to Wear" (cause DUH I'm obsessed, too) - I literally googled "BB cream" after Cardmindy mentioned it. I feel like that makes me less of a woman. I honestly had no idea what BB cream was. I'm so glad that you just explained it SO much better than Wikipedia. I feel enlightened. So thanks for that. :)

  9. Great post! I wouldn't have given a Revlon BB cream a second look but may just consider it should I come across it that is, more so because of the lighter coverage than anything else. Thanks!

    Have a great weekend lovely,

  10. this is a really great review. i haven't researched bb creams that much, but it sounds like a product that might be good for me as i don't use a regular foundation everyday but would like something to even out my skin tone and provide some moisture. i think i am going to give this a try!

  11. I tried a sample from a magazine (not sure what brand) and thought it was just a primer. Ugh, my face was soooo orange! They just put a 'medium' color in the magazine and my skin is very fair. Your skin looks amazing! I will have to try it now that I know what it is...

    1. Hahaha yeah, if it's not your color, it won't look right. And for whatever reason, most of the BB creams I've tried had some sort of orange tint to them. What is the deal with that? Light/Medium in this brand worked okay for me because I rubbed it in really good. Thank you though! :)

  13. You and I have super similar skin - I commend you for posting your bare face on the internet you are my new hero.
That being said, I tried out this new (expensive) BB Cream by DR. Jart (from sephora) and I'm in love. It works great. But for the price point I think this BB probably is the best.
