Scarf: Rue 21, $9

Scarf or no scarf, this outfit just makes me feel weird.
I've been wanting a polka dotted top and a peplum skirt for literally ages, and I found these both for less than $20 each at Forever 21. So I think the excitement of it all clouded my judgement, and I wore the two together. In the dimly lit dressing room of Forever 21, this combination looked great. In the broad daylight of my apartment's hallway, I'm a little appalled.
I was so confident in this outfit, I didn't even look in the mirror before I left the house. And when an agent at work saw me and said, "Wow, Lynette... only you..", I pulled the heart-shaped lollipop out of my mouth and went "Awwwwww yeah!". I might be fifteen. WEAR ALL THE TRENDS AT ONCE!
And yes, I am wearing old granny nylons in these photos. And yes, they bunch at my ankles, because who the heck knows what size to buy when buying nylons. These might also belong to my mother. We may never know.
I absolutely adore this skirt! and it's from Forever 21...go figure! :) While I don't think this outfit is horrible (or appalling), I think a more fitted top would have worked better! I usually try and wear outfits that have one fitted piece and one "looser" piece (skinny jeans with a flowy blouse; a looser pencil skirt with a tighter t-shirt and cardigan) so that the whole look looks balanced. I LOVE the peplum of this skirt but that with the over-flowing fabric of the blouse it puts a lot of fabric at your tummy (and girl you are SKINNY-werk it!). But even with all this being said, you still look fabulous- and I just might steal that scarf...it is exactly what I've been looking for!

Ha, so funny that you saw this post after I commented on yours about f21 skirts! It sounds like we are probably close to the same exact size. This skirt is a medium and fits like a glove! Loose enough to not flare at the bottom but tight enough to feel cute!
DeleteMy usual rule is to mix tight and loose. I never usually EVER mix two loose pieces (too boho for me) or two tight pieces (too sexy for me!). I guess my mind thought that peplum was the same as a pencil skirt but its clearly a very different silhouette, haha!
Loooooooove that skirt! But yeah, wear it with a more form fitting shirt!
ReplyDeleteI think this outfit is cute! I would have never thought a negative thing about it until you said something. And even still I like it! Great finds from Forever 21 and I LOVE the pink Target heels!
ReplyDeleteGirl you are being way to hard on yourself:)! You need to get out of your head! I think this outfit is cute too:)! And I say yes on the yellow scarf! That skirt looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteThat peplum skirt is amazing! And love those heels! What a fabulous color :)

The outfit is adorable...granny nylons included. The scarf gives it some extra color. I say it's a keeper :)
ReplyDeleteProps to you for posting an outfit you don't like. I don't think I have the confidence to do that. Point in case, I put on and thought an outfit looked cute, took the pictures, looked at them then decided I really didn't looks as cute as I thought I did. I love both pieces, but they probably would look better separate.

I think your outfit is super cute! I have been wanting a peplum top for a while, but unfortunately every one that I've tried on looks crazy (my torso is reeaaaaly long). I'm thinking maybe I should try out a peplum skirt??
ReplyDeleteFound your blog through Frannish and I'm so glad I did! New follower :)
Love this look - come link up (http://www.workclothesisuppose.com/2013/02/its-third-thursday-threads-polka-dots.html) with your awesome polka dots! I'm so excited to be following you now after both Sam & Fran introducing you!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the combination! It looks amazing, and with the added lime and red heels, makes it a tad springy! Love the blouse, you can pair it with so many things!

Um you look cute, so stop it. But I do know what you mean - with my peplum skirt (which I have trouble styling, like, a lot) I try and wear tighter pieces on top that are less blousey and that makes me feel a little more confident about the extra bulk at the waist. Also, I didn't even know you were (or maybe weren't) wearing nylons, so let's just pretend like it neeeever happened.

See Mo Go.
But, I LOVE this outfit! Don't change a thing. The scarf, especially, add just a little extra oomph to it.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that shirt is awesome. Also, have no shame in the granny nylons. I totally wear them too. Sometimes, you just want to wear non-black or non-colored tights...but in Minnesota in the winter, you've got to have something covering your legs...granny nylons it is :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and ladylike! I absolutely adore your magenta pumps!
